My First Trimester Story
When I found out I was pregnant, I found out right away and at first, I felt great. I remember my sisters saying how they were so surprised at how good I felt, little did I know that coming week, week 6, I was going to feel a whole lot different. The nausea, the exhaustion, the overwhelming emotions, I quickly realized pregnancy was going to stretch me in every way, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In those early weeks, I researched a ton of all the different effects I was feeling. I also leaned a lot into prayer and asking God for peace, strength and reassurance. He led me to finding these tips and by week 9 I was feeling SO much better. If I were to write a letter to myself of first trimester pregnancy tips, this would be my personal advice.

Give Yourself Grace and Journal Your Feelings
Everything that you experience is new, no two pregnancies are the same and everyone is different so give yourself grace. Don’t overdo things. If you are anything like me, you’ll want to live as normally as possible and for a few weeks during the first trimester, this just wasn’t the case. I often felt down because I couldn’t live normally and felt sick. Try taking a warm (not hot) bath, journaling, praying or reading a calming devotion.

Sleep When You Can
One of the most practical first trimester pregnancy tips I can give: sleep as much as your body asks for. There were so many times when I felt like there were a million other things I needed to be doing rather than sleeping but again just embrace this time. Growing a baby takes a ton of energy and God designed our bodies to tell us when we need to pause. Do what your body tells you.
Eat in Small Increments
For the first few weeks, I was very, very nauseous but never actually became sick. Whenever I felt that hollow, empty nauseous feeling in my stomach, I ate graham crackers. They were my go-to. As soon as I got up in the morning before even taking my head off of the pillow, I ate a piece of graham cracker. In the middle of the night I often felt sick and so I kept the graham crackers on my nightstand. Whatever you can get down, try to eat – it will help!
Try Ginger, B6 and B12
This is one of my most effective first trimester pregnancy tips! I drank ginger lemon pop and ate ginger lozenges. I personally chose to add B12 for my tiredness, B6 for the nauseousness after doing my own research and talking with my provider. By week 9, I started feeling so much better.

Start a Prenatal
After doing much research, I found that Nature Made Prenatal Multivitamin had the most vitamins I needed and it didn’t bother my stomach at all! Huge Win!
Download the Bump App
I really loved using this app. It had so much good, relevant information for each week of pregnancy. And best of all, it’s free! (No, this isn’t sponsored, just something that really helped!) You can download the app here!
